A crooked smile and some decent chat is all it takes to earn my trust. From that point forward, I will jump in the backseat of your car and hope that you will take me to safety – my life completely in your hands. What is the price one puts on this type of kindness?

The island is small but the people that live on it are big. He didn’t choose this life but that doesn’t mean he lives with discontent. In fact, he seemed happier than most people I know. Driving in between mountains for hours on end, forced to listen to the whistling winds or drunken shrieks (depending on the hour). He is young, but he looks at his son and prays for his escape.
“Leave this island. Do something with your life. Don’t be like me.”
Their incarceration is what many crave, and maybe it’s what I was seeking for. A taste of restriction to explode in freedom.
